PS5 turns on but no picture: HDMI, cables and the port

The console powers up — you can hear the fan, the light's on, maybe you hear the startup chime — but the TV just says "No signal" or stays black. It's alarming, but it's often something simple. Work through these in order.

1. Check the TV is on the right input

It sounds obvious, but it's the single most common cause. Use the Source or Input button on your TV remote and step through HDMI 1, 2, 3 in turn, giving each a few seconds. A soundbar or AV receiver in the chain can also land you on the wrong input.

2. Try a different HDMI cable

Cables fail more often than people expect — internally broken, or just not rated for the resolution. Swap in another one, ideally a known-good cable from another device.

3. Try a different HDMI socket on the TV

Individual HDMI ports on a TV do fail. Move the console's cable to another socket and re-check the input.

4. Try another screen entirely

Plug the console into a completely different TV or a monitor. If it works there, the problem is your original TV or its cable — not the console.

Still nothing on a known-good screen and a known-good cable usually points to the console's own HDMI port.

5. Now suspect the console's HDMI port

If a known-good cable and TV still give you nothing, look closely at the console's HDMI socket. Bent pins, a socket that wobbles or sits at an angle, or scorch marks mean a damaged HDMI port — a common board-level repair, not a dead console.

A couple of PS5-specific things

A PS5 that beeps once and shows no light, or flashes blue and powers off, is a different fault (often power or storage) — worth mentioning when you get in touch. And "Safe Mode" (hold the power button until the second beep) can force a supported video output if a resolution setting got stuck.

Book a repair or message me with your console and exactly what you see, and I'll help you get a picture back.
